LifeSouth and the Five Points of Life program are grateful for the support we received from the community, sponsors, parents and, especially, the children in making this first-year’s Kids Marathon such a wonderful success. More than 450 children from Alachua County registered for this event, spending months running their 25 miles prior to the final day of their 26.2-mile marathon.
Watching these kids approach the finish line warmed the
hearts of everyone in attendance and we hope that it
was as inspirational for the children and their parents as it was for everyone who witnessed their accomplishment.
The Five Points Kids Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2009 and we hope to see this event grow in our community, bringing the challenges and rewards of fitness to children from Kindergarten through 8th Grade.
What is the Kids Marathon?
This is an extension of the Five Points of Life Marathon which is on Sunday,
February 22, 2009. The goal of the Kids Marathon is to promote good health
and physical fitness by giving kids the opportunity to accomplish the goal
of running an entire 26.2 miles, just like marathoners! The difference is that
the kids will be running and training the distance between now and race day. They
will complete the final 1.2 mile run on Saturday, February 21, 2009.
Eligibility
Kids in kindergarten through 8th grade are eligible. Kids
must have completed 25 miles prior to Saturday, February 21, and bring their
log sheet to registration, signed by a parent/guardian, and register
