Welcome to the Five Points of Life Bike Ride

Five Points of Life is focused on raising national awareness of the need for
donations of all five points of life and increasing donor participation. With
the support of many of the national donor organizations and the financial support
of corporate sponsors, LifeSouth organized the first cross-country Five Points
of Life ride in 1997.
Subsequent rides in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006 have generated media coverage at most
events along the route, playing a key role in raising awareness for the need.
Events have also resulted in 4,376 additions to the National
Marrow Donor Program Registry. Information on both organ & tissue donations
and cord blood banking has been widely distributed, and blood and apheresis
donations are an integral part of daily events held across the country.
Logistics:
The Five Points of Life Ride consists of a small team of cyclists and support
crew. Each member is selected for their personal connection to one or more
of the five points. The route crosses the country, with stops in communities
along the way at activities and events hosted by local donor organizations.
Team members meet with donors, patients, community leaders and media. School
assemblies, donor drives, formal presentations, hospital visits, proclamations,
and media interviews are key components of the ride. Three support vehicles
accompany the team serving as baggage carriers, repair shops, snack bars, and
when storms occur, transportation.
Participants:
In addition to the official team, selected through a national application process,
a variety of celebrities, community leaders and many other cyclists join the
ride for a day, a state, a week or just a few miles. Law enforcement escorts
have been a highlight in many states. At local events, community members join
with donors and recipients to meet and greet the riders.
