When: Oct. 15, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Where: 3995 Webb Bridge Road, Alpharetta

(Alpharetta, Ga.
)
Susan and Chris Jasin don’t need to read the literature on why it’s important to donate blood, they need only watch their son Jakob play baseball or see the smile on his face when he bites into a big piece of  pizza.

Susan Jasin is a volunteer who is working to recruit blood donors for the Oct. 15 drive at Creek View Elementary School in Alpharetta, where Jakob is a second grader. To those who see him on the playground today, he looks like a typical active 7-year-old. Only the small medical alert bracelet he wears on his wrist and the faint Y-shaped scar on his tummy hint at the early struggles he faced daily. Click here to read press release.

For anyone to hit the 10 gallon mark as a blood donor is an accomplishment, but...

for Don Puent of Hernando to reach that goal, it’s amazing.

Puent, 73, is a retired hospital administrator who moved to Florida 12 years ago from La Crosse, Wisc.
