The LifeSouth Research Institute needs volunteers to help drive scientific breakthroughs
With the opening of the LifeSouth Research Institute, blood donors – as well as those who are ineligible to give blood – gain opportunities to participate in research programs that directly contribute to scientific breakthroughs and discoveries. LifeSouth partners with research institutions across the country leading innovative research programs. Their findings help people live longer, healthier lives.
Why participate in a research program?
Participants in research programs directly contribute to improving overall blood safety, enhancing the effectiveness of transfusion medicine and helping people with conditions such as cancer, heart disease and autoimmune disorders.
Without research program participation, future developments in medicine would not be possible.
If you are deferred from donating blood due to travel, medication or any other reason, you may still be able to participate in a LifeSouth Research Institute program.
Confidentiality
We take your privacy very seriously. Your health information will not be shared. If you decide to participate in a future research program, your personal identifying information will not be shared with any third party without your explicit, written consent, and only basic demographic information will be provided to our research partners.

You will be asked to provide some information about your health and behavior, because researchers are interested in participants for many different reasons. Again, none of the information you provide will be shared without your explicit consent. Filling out the form does not automatically enroll you in a research program.
If you qualify for a program, a representative of the LifeSouth Research Institute will contact you and provide further information including details about participation and possible compensation.
