Who We Are
Founded in 1974 in Gainesville, Florida, LifeSouth is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community blood center supplying more than 150 hospitals in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.
Community is our middle name:
LifeSouth is a community blood center. Blood collected from our donors helps patients in the local communities we serve. Only if our local supply is met will LifeSouth share our blood resources with our communities. It takes a whole community to save a life. The support of the Tampa community is vital to fulfilling our mission and gives countless patients the lifesaving treatment they need to survive.

Blood donation helps cancer patients:
- Many cancer patients need daily blood transfusions while undergoing chemotherapy.
- Blood transfusions help replenish health blood cells for cancer patients with low cell counts.
- Only 10% of the U.S. populations gives blood each year.
