LifeSouth Celebrates National EMS Week and National Trauma Awareness Month with Blood Drive Challenge
When traumas occur, it is the first responders that answer the call, and LifeSouth honors the work they do to help victims every day. During National Trauma Awareness Month and EMS Week, blood donors can show support for these local heroes as well.
Blood donors who donate with LifeSouth during EMS Week, May 18 through May 24 will have an opportunity to donate toward police or fire, and the organization with the most donors will be announced at the World Police and Fire Games held in Birmingham, Ala. During the week, blood donors will receive a special t-shirt, either red for fire or blue for police, commemorating the World Police and Fire Games, and a $25 e-gift card.
“Our first responders save lives every day, and we are grateful for the sacrifices they make to keep our communities safe,” said John Sheehan, District Director for LifeSouth in Central Alabama. “We look forward to welcoming blood donors during EMS Week and providing a way for our donors to show their support of police and fire teams.”
“Anytime you tell firefighters and police officers to compete against each other, you can be sure they’re going to go all out. The World Police & Fire Games is thrilled to be part of LifeSouth’s initiative to use that age-old rivalry to generate much-needed blood supplies for area hospitals, and to show support for first responders at the same time,” said DJ Mackovets, CEO of the 2025 World Police & Fire Games.
Donating helps ensure blood will be available to patients at local hospitals. LifeSouth is the blood provider of hospitals in Alabama, and right now all blood types are needed, especially type O donors and platelet donors. First time donors are welcome and encouraged to give.
